Energy Smart Housing Manual

Sustainability Victoria has released an Energy Smart Housing Manual to help home owners, builders and designers construct homes that have great thermal performance. The manual explains how a home’s design and construction impacts its energy efficiency. Although written for Victoria, the principles covered are applicable to much of Australia – certainly central and southern NSW and the ACT.
Chapter 3 – Siting and Solar Access – makes the point that the orientation, slope and shape of the site defines key constraints that will affect the thermal performance of the building. How many buyers are aware of this when they select their new block of land?
