CSR House keeps its cool

CSR’s 8 star house in Western Sydney is a live demonstration of the benefits of good design. The benefits of the 8 star rating have been seen in both extreme heat and cold.

According to CSR, during testing conducted on a cold winter morning with the outside temperature at 1.2 degrees, the house never dropped below 16 degrees, despite the fact that the heating had been turned off for almost a month.

Conversely, in summer when the outside temperature topped 40 degrees, the internal temperature remained steady around 27 degrees, without air-conditioning.

Key aspects of the design include:

  • connectivity to the concrete slab
  • high levels of insulation and lowE double glazing
  • controllable ventilation through good construction
  • passive solar design
